JOYby Dr. Karen Joy King For the last several years, I have asked God to give me a simple motto, which is to be my goal for each year. A couple of years ago, God led me to change my middle and last names. He gave me JOY for my middle name! It is an acronym for Jesus, Others, You (me). It also reminds me that the joy of the Lord is my strength. Without this joy, life is very meaningless, empty, and powerless. For most of my life, I was very depressed. In fact, I was born depressed! It wasn’t until I became a CLU student, took the wonderfully anointed, life changing courses, and went through deliverance/counseling that I was set free. Since then, my goal is to live my life with joy. I want to be so full of God’s joy that it spills over on to everyone with whom I come in contact! My motto? “In 08, I will feast from God’s joy plate.” It may be simple and homely, but it represents a lot of meaning and challenge to me. Many times, due to life’s circumstances and people, joy can easily be sapped from us. It is a daily challenge to live above everything and everyone and to keep the joy. Some of the things I do to maintain the joy is to live in God’s Word, stay focused on Him, look for ways to help others, and purposely stir up joy. Upon waking every morning, I begin praising God and professing out loud His promises over my life (His Word does not return void). Throughout the day, I try to stay tuned to His flow and in communion with Him. Before I go to sleep, I thank Him for His many blessings that day. As I go to sleep, I worshipfully repeat Jesus’ name over and over. Each day is a gift from God. “For this is the day which the Lord has made. I WILL rejoice and be glad in it.” Notice the will is involved. Choose to enjoy each and every day with God in the gift He has given you. Don’t focus on the problems, but focus on Him. A question I often ask myself is, “Am I problem or power (God’s power) conscious?” It makes all the difference in the world where we keep our focus. I am looking forward to a great and joyful year in the Lord and pray that yours will be too! Surrender everything and everyone to God, delve into the CLU courses so He can take you to new spiritual heights, and let the JOY with power spill forth! Jesus is coming soon! Let’s make as big of an impact on this world as we can before we leave it! If we allow problems to get us down, we are not better off than those who don’t know Christ. Cast ALL of your cares upon Him so you can truly be free to enjoy life with abundant JOY! P.S. Start the new year by joining other students and me on the weekly chats
found at www.cluonline.com/chat.htm, Thursdays at 9:00 P.M. EST. This is a
great way to be a part of the CLU community! How does one begin to describe a course that is literally life altering? Certainly, the task of doing so with CLU’s course Communion with God is that daunting. To say it has been anything other than life changing is to misspeak. Naturally, you will reap only as much benefit as the depth of yourself that you’re determined to put into it. The tapes with Dr. Virkler’s voice and his transparent nature, along with Patti, his wife’s presentation in the book, Dialogue with God, and the lesson “practices” in creating your own personal “flow of fellowship” with God are extraordinarily real! This is not your typical course in either forum or function; at least not what I’ve experienced in any other university setting I’ve attended. I believe its differences are exactly what make it so uniquely life altering. From the onset, this course asks you to go where no other course has ever attempted--into yourself--using imagery, imagination, and child-like spontaneous wonderment. You reach a pinnacle of gleeful awe and see God as never before. You begin an excursion with God that you’re not afraid to travel and go unfettered, hand in hand, with a Heavenly Father you never knew existed, and One of total LOVE Who spurs you ever onward in the journey. It is personal and the only restrictions are the ones you place there. God, as you discover, through the teaching exercises, individualized loving instruction from Dr. Karen King, and the principles explained by Dr. Mark Virkler (those on relaxation, picturing Jesus with you as Scriptures are read and/or explained, learning dialogue by listening and hearing God’s voice for yourself, and then writing those “impressions” down, are the crux of the entire course. It sounds simple enough, but the results are anything but! You not only learn God is still speaking today, but that He has a healing rhema that has been fashioned just for you! It is easy to be spoon-fed proclamations from a pulpit, and it is always easier to be passive; however, the personal rewards are seldom there. In this course, you get to experience the Word jump off the page, become real, tangible, unforgettable! You actually “experience” the Word rather than merely read it. The Word becomes alive, dwells in you, and resonates within you, which is powerful and life altering! It is nothing short of miraculous! Of course, you can’t know this until you immerse yourself into this amazing way of learning, this unprecedented forum for self-discovery as God supplies His answers to all you wish to ask. I can say this with complete sincerity, that I, being a Christian for more than 20 years, have never been able to read the Bible from cover to cover because I’d quit from sheer boredom and lack of understanding its meaning for me in this day—until now! Now, Genesis is as relevant to me as Revelation. Exodus is as freeing as Christ’s
death in the New Testament! If not for this course, who knows what I would,
or wouldn’t have learned, about the Godhead? I chose to take the road
that is less traveled, but thank the Lord, which is already established, and
it has made all the difference! God, please speak to me about my concerns over my divided church. I am confused. Conflicted. Torn.
In August 2007, I began to feel in my heart a deep desire, a really deep one, for I realized that I needed to change not only the way, the approach, the focus, and the goals of my ministry, but also of my life. In that moment, I understood that change was necessary in order for me to return to a life full of fruit. As a result, I decided to increase my knowledge, but I also realized that I really needed more than just knowledge. I needed a closer communion with my Lord. I understood that my life needed more of Jesus and a better relationship with the Holy Spirit. I thought, “What do I have to do to bring about these changes?” That’s when I decided to look for an organization able to help me. I needed desperately somebody to guide me in my way, to increase my skills, and to get a better relationship with the Lord in order to be successful in my ministry. Finally, I decided to enter the Internet and look for help. I am sure it was the Lord Who guided me to find CLU! Immediately, as I started my doctorate at CLU, I began to receive many blessings from God! A lot has been happening in my life since the day I found CLU and took the course REN 503 Communion with God! As a result of my encounter with God through this course, my life has been touched! My life has been changed! The five crucial concepts that made this miracle in my life are:
Other concepts also gave me a lot of comprehension about my life, such as: the danger of the Pharisee behavior; the reality of the New Age movement; and the risk of being deceived. I think the most important discovery is the Four Keys. I really believe in the Four Keys, and I know that I need all four keys to hear God’s voice, not two, not three… but all four. I am learning to quiet myself by entering into situations that let me be physically calm so I can let go and relax because I desperately want to hear the thoughts that light upon my mind. Once I am stilled, then I can fix my eyes on Jesus and look for vision as I pray using pictures in my mind about Jesus in Jerusalem or Galilee. My rational mind fights me when I want to tune to spontaneity, but if I really fix my eyes on Jesus, I can recognize the spontaneous thoughts that come from Him and then write down the flow of thoughts and pictures that come to me. One astounding journaling example is:
